Abigail Morgan
31 October 1916 to 11 May 1955
Abigail Morgan was born at Lea Watson Farm, Plodder Lane, Farnworth, Lancashire on the 31 October 1916. Abigail was the youngest of 8 children, her eldest brother Samuel being 16 when she was born.
Abigail, often called Abbie, was confirmed on the 24 April 1931 and took her first Holy Communion on the 3 May 1931. Abbie received a prayer book for her confirmation and a memorial card for her first communion.
At school, Abbie was a keen lacrosse player and played for her school regularly. In 1933 she was awarded a school pin for her success at this sport.
Abigail married Leonard Michael Raynor on the 31 October 1945 at the Parish Church, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. The wedding was witnessed by Richard Graham and Edith Lily Bramhall. At the time of the marriage Abigail was working as a nurse. Both Len and Abigail were living at 21 Grayson Road, Little Hulton, Lancashire.
The marriage certificate lists Abigail's age as 28 however they were married on her 29th birthday. It also shows Len as being 33 when in fact he was only 26!
When their daughter K Raynor was born, Abigail and Len were staying at 21 Grayson Road, Little Hulton, Lancashire, even though Len gave his home address when he registered K's birth the following day as 3 Ellerslie Terrace, Gosforth, Cumberland. Len and Abigail were staying with Abigail's family as Len had been stationed near there. Unfortunately before K was born, Abigail caught chicken pox. So she couldn't go to a maternity ward to have K because she had chicken pox and she couldn't go to a chicken pox isolation unit because she was preganant, so K had to be born at home. This meant that to try to prevent anyone else catching chicken pox, Abigail was confined to the front room in the house and anyone coming to the house had to go in and out through the back.
On the 11 May 1955, Abigail died at the family home, 8 The Crescent, Egremont, Cumberland. Abigail was interred at Egremont Cemetery.
